Ban Hua Mae Kham (1)


General Information
The Village of Ban Hua Mae Kham is located in the village group Nr. 4 in the Community of Mae Salong Nai in the District of Mae Fa Luang in the Province of Chiang Rai. This village has a mixed population of 4 ethnic groups. The village has 154 Lisu households, 61 Akha, 11 Lahu and 2 Chinese households, with 1,845 inhabitants, 660 men and 1,185 women. Most of them are animists with ancestor worship; some are Christians. They make their living out of agriculture and working for a day loan.
Geographically, the village is situated on a highland, at the altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by mountains, forests and brooks nearby, and it has cool temperature for the whole year. Administratively, the village borders forested areas in the north, the Union of Myanmar in the south, Ban San Ma Khet in the east, and the Union of Myanmar in the west.
In 1999, a Festival of Blooming Sunflowers was organized and cerebrated for the first time; since then, it has always been set in the village every year - in November. This festival has become a kind of tradition now.
Festivals and Traditions
The Chinese New Year takes place in January and lasts until February, with religious ceremony and rituals and entertainment.
The Half-Year Ceremony for the fields is set to cerebrate in Juli. Fruits and agricultural products will be brought to the house's altar, animals are offered the House Spirit, as well. The ceremony, whose meaning is similar to Thanksgiving Day, comes to the end after 3 days. The Making of Merit for the village's shrine is done about 20 days after the celebration of New Year, also in February

    Thanks for this information. I'll like to spend a few days in this village, do you think it's possible to spend some nights there? And how to go there from Chiang Rai?
